A LOVE FOR WINE AND THE LAND
A history as long as the rows of our vineyards
Gazing out across the vineyards surrounding our winery is like looking into our history. Year after year, as our vines have spread their roots ever deeper into the soil, we have constantly built and honed our expertise. It all began in the 1970s, when Giacomo Salmaso transformed what was originally a traditional farm into a winery that has since gone on to evolve over time and adapt to the changing tastes and customs of the consumer while never losing its identity.
Welcoming you into our winery today are Diego, Riccardo, Nadia, Laura and Chiara, who run the family business with the same passion as always, tending its 50 hectares of vineyards in full respect of the spirit and nature of these hills and their own personal heritage. They tend this land with the care and attention it deserves, aware of the fact that they are the custodians of the values of a straightforward, closely-knit family that has held on to its identity and continues to express it in its wines.
A winery set amongst the Euganean Hills, a place as enchanting and generous as the wines we produce.
A WINERY THAT CARES FOR THE FUTURE
We love the land, but also our future
We have been working the land for decades, while never forgetting the bigger picture of the earth we all share. The earth that is home to all of us, which we must pledge ourselves to treat with the utmost care, not just with words but through concrete action, because the choices we make today will inevitably leave their mark on the world of tomorrow.
We have chosen to do our part, as testified by the photovoltaic system we installed back in 2012, with which we now produce the majority of the energy we consume. Obviously we make wine, so our attention has also focused on an aspect that is part and parcel of the product we sell: the bottle. Since 1980 we have been using thinner walled, lightweight bottles to reduce production and transport costs, because we have always believed that even smaller details can make the difference in the long run.
THE FIVE ELEMENTS
The five elements of nature transformed into distinguishing traits of the labels identifying our wines
The Salmaso family and its wines share the same origins, at Montegrotto Terme in the Euganean Hills. A place defined by softly rolling hills filling the horizon, and mile upon mile of vine rows. It is only natural that the surroundings we grew up, live and work in are also reflected in the labels on our bottles. This is why each of our product lines is identified by a natural element: water, which ceaselessly nourishes the soil, air, which gives our hills their many unique microclimates, earth, which imbues each wine with its own distinct aromas and flavours, fire, reminding us of the volcanic origins of this territory, and the time needed to patiently transform the grapes into wine. A choice that reveals a great deal about us and our relationship with the environment surrounding us.
